Landscape with no mow lawns..drought resistant, no need to fertilize and limited mowing.
By planting specific types of lawn grasses you can have a lawn that is extremely low maintenance. Your lawn can be drought resistant, require limited or no fertilizer and limited mowing during the growing season if this sounds good - read further on “no-mow” lawns.

Recently I have become aware of a novel landscaping re-innovation…no-mow lawns. Lawns that you need not be toiling away every weekend to chop and groom your grass, just to prevent the loss of small children or large dogs in that wildly growing thatch!

The "no mow" doesn’t mean that you can just haul off the lawn mower but the mowing chore doesn’t need to be done often.  A springtime mowing when the grass starts to seed and then perhaps a couple of times throughout the growing season is all this type of lawn needs.

There are some other real advantages to a lawn of this variety but if you are one of those folks that like that perfectly groomed look then perhaps you may not be interested. However, if you do have areas that you just want covered with a nice, cooling, easy care ground cover then again you might consider reading further.

Other great benefits of the no-mow lawn are drought resistance, requires little or no fertilizers when established and is virtually carefree most of the time.  It will not only reduce your yard work but is ecologically sound.  No more pesticides or herbicides added to your space and a major reduction in water usage.

Prairie Nursery provides two different grass blends that are considered no-mow. These blends consist of a number of native fescue grasses with leaf blades growing only 4-6 inches. These will form a tough mat of carefree lawn that is extremely hardy and grows well in full sun to medium shade.
