Vacation and Visitors Guide To  Clarkston, Washington - Lewiston, Idaho area. Activities to enjoy in the Snake River Region of Washington, Idaho and Oregon.

Visit the Rivers. The eastern portion of Washington and the western edge of Idaho meet along the famous Snake River. It is here, in the communities of Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston Washington, that is considered the Gateway to Hells Canyon. This river corridor has some unique qualities, and a climate that is foreign to most of the inland areas.

The Snake flows through Hells Canyon National Recreational Area and is a tourist attraction that is known world wide and visited by thousands of people through out the year. Traveling through it is an adventure – the high canyon walls, abundant wildlife, clear clean water, sandy beaches and impressive rapids make this region a must visit site.

Tour operators located within these two sister cities provide jet boat tours.

North central Idaho also has the Salmon River, which is also known as the River of No Return. Both these famous water ways are known for their wild rapids and rugged landscapes. During the summer the two rivers are also rafter destinations for both outfitter guided trips as well as private groups.

Fishing opportunities are varied depending on your interests. The Snake River is known for the steelhead which migrate into the systems in the fall. Anglers from around the world will come each year to enjoy the rugged beauty and great winter fishing.

Summers also provide some outstanding fishing for Smallmouth Bass and trout. Probably the most exciting species for summer fishing are the White Sturgeon living in the Snake and Salmon Rivers. There are numerous specimens in the 7 feet to 10 feet plus class. Their great size and strength combined with the rough river environment can be the ultimate angling experience.
Licensed guides and outfitters provide guided fishing on these major rivers in both Idaho and Washington.

Granite Lake is also a great place to boat, water ski and play with personal water craft.  Staying in the impounded area of the Snake River even someone totally unfamiliar with the area has miles of flat water to navigate and play. There are two marinas available to moor a boat and secure gasoline.
