Vacation options for every season.
Most families plan their vacations around the school vacation period.
Usually by the middle of June the Oregon coastal areas are experiencing the warmer, dryer conditions that summer brings. This seasonal change provides the perfect situation for family outdoor activities.
The coastal scenery and environment has long been a draw for numerous artisans. This has resulted in many galleries along the entire Oregon coast. Fine art, sculptures and hand crafted items that make outstanding gifts and home decor are available almost everywhere you travel.
Charter fishing is readily available in most communities that have a marina. Whale watching tours run seasonally. Crabbing and clamming are activities that many people enjoy as well as just walking the beaches gathering shells or bits of driftwood.
Sight seeing along highway 101 presents the opportunity to see the rugged shoreline and visit the various lighthouses that dot the headlands. For more information on each lighthouse check out oregon.com
Watch for scenic areas and you will find trails that wander the coastal forests or lead you down
to rugged coastal tide pools. If you explore these you will find animals such as crabs, starfish, small fishes and snails . There are colored anemones that look like flowers with their pedal like tendrils. Every nook and cranny may be hiding small treasures.
Want something faster and more exciting? Take your off road RV’s and head into the Dunes area around Florence where you will find the excitement of miles of trails and huge Dunes to climb. This is a big draw for many families. For more information visit Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area

Coastal Lodging options
Oregon has some great state parks that provide overnight camping for both tent campers and RVers. Those who are interested in utilizing the parks should make reservations early as they are extremely popular. For more information on the Oregon Park system visit their website.
Other options for vacation lodging would be to stay in any one of the motels that can provide everything from simple lodging to elegant establishments with pools and fireplaces.
You should also look into vacation homes. Many of these are quite reasonably priced and can provide a great place for the family to stretch out and have more space and a homey environment. Full kitchens can take a bite out of the expense of a vacation especially when you have children who are active and can eat you out of house and home.
Many rentals are capable of sleeping up to six people and some are pet friendly.
You can get some nice off season rates at most rentals during the fall, winter and early spring months.
Whether you are looking for a quiet getaway from the hubbub of your everyday life or are looking for something a bit more physical Oregon’s coast can provide it. Take yourself, your family and head for the beautiful Coast of Oregon.

Others might want to consider an early spring visit to the coastal areas. The weather may be a bit less perfect but the blooming wild rhododendrons and new growth of the grasses and flowers can be spectacular. Some other benefits of choosing the “off” season is the
more laid back feel of the environment. There is less traffic and congestion in the towns, shops and highways. This makes for a quiet, less stressful experience for those who need a recharge and rest.
You may want to take advantage of watching nature at its most impressive strength. Take a quick few days off and visit the coast during a winter storm. Make sure you have a good ocean view and then sit back and watch the huge breakers come ashore. Rain, wind and the boiling, gray green surf will give you a new perspective on the world.
You may even want to walk the beaches to get a first hand view and feel of how impressive nature really can be. If you think this might be something you want to do then make sure you bring good rain gear and boots.
